My Multnomah shawlette

I really enjoyed knitting this, the pattern was easy enough for tired knitting in front of the TV, and I managed to complete it in just 3 days (which gives you some idea why I hardly got any of my course work done during the same period lol).  I’ve had real problems getting a decent photo of this, which is a little sad cos its really quite pretty:

And as modeled by my beautiful assistant (AKA Caitlin):

Only changes I made to the pattern was to extend the garter stitch section slightly, I would have also extended the feather and fan section if it wasn’t for the fact I was running out of yarn (in fact I finished my cast off with less than a yard of yarn left…eeek).

If I knit this one again, which I probably will as its a nice way to use a skein of nice sock yarn, I think I’d go up a couple of needle sizes.  The garter stitch section in particularly is denser than I’d like and I think the feather and fan section would benefit from being a little more open.

Last night I didn’t feel like working on the long rows of my top down one piece cardi and since the new cotton yarn I blogged about yesterday was calling to me I knit this:

Now I’m not often in the mood to knit a wash cloth but this looked like a fun pattern and  I figured an instant gratification project was probably wise to ensure I got my work done today after my obsessiveness over the shawlette. Please ignore the small stocking stitch section- I dozed off part way through a row and I think I must have knit back the wrong way when I woke up.

As far as the course work goes I’m actually almost finished now- just the conclusion and references and I’m all done- which is actually what I’d planned to do now….oh dear, there’s really no hope for me is there??

  1. I must be blind, I can’t see the stocking stitch section on the washcloth. It looks like a lovely pattern. Think I should do some small projects like that instead of slaving away endlessly on a sweater that will probably be too warm for me to wear when I finish it :) well done on the coursework finishing :) what course are you doing?

  2. Pretty shawl and I love that dishcloth!

  3. Lovely yarn and pattern to match. The dishcloth is cute. Im thinking that if you made it smaller and lacier, you could hang them in your windows.

  4. Pretty shawl and really cool dishcloth!

  5. Lovely shawl. I’ve made 3 Multnomah’s already…it’s an addicting pattern!

  6. Your shawl turned out great! And it was quick. ;)

    I love the starfish dishcloth.

  7. That shawl is lovely, but I especially like the wash-star! Thanks for the pattern link.

  8. Thanks for the nice comments guys. I enjoyed the shawl knitting so much I started another one last night :D

Steph- I’m studying for a degree in Social policy and criminology overall, the course I’m on at the moment is one of my free choice modules ‘Understanding media.’ I’m enjoying it mostly but really struggled to focus with this latest assignment cos there was too much Foucault in it lol.

  9. I can see why you enjoyed making the shawl. It turned out great. I love the colors.

  10. Blimmin heck! What a course. Makes mine look a little silly. but then again it is. Music and religion :p

  11. I don’t think your’s sounds silly at all. I’m enjoying my study so far, and its good to feel like I’m working towards a better future. My ideal degree would be in Textiles though, but I think I missed the boat on that one :/

  12. I totally missed the textile boat as well. When I was looking at grad schools, I remember thinking ever so briefly about working under a textile engineer–still kicking myself over not investigating that path more. I mean, uniting my fiber love and science uber-dorkiness would be the ultimate dream job. ;)

That shawl looks incredibly cozy…love it!
